Volleyball adds transfer, releases schedule

Appalachian Volleyball announced a incoming transfer and released their 2012 schedule this week. Despite only nine home games on the schedule, the timing of the home games is especially exciting. Seven home games are on the weekend and feature conferennce opponents. Septemeber 29th features a 7pm start opposite of Appalachian’s home football game against Coastal Carolina. Appalachian finishes the last weekend in September against UNC-Greensboro on Septemeber 30th.

On October 6th, Appalachian will host Georgia Southern at 7pm which will come on the heels of the Homecoming football game against Elon. Appalachian hosts another weekend set on Friday October 19th against College of Charleston at 7pm and Saturday, October 20th against The Citadel at 7pm. The Saturday game follows Appalachian battling Wofford on the gridiron.

In November, Appalachian hosts Western Carolina on the only weeknight game on the conference slate at 7pm. Appalachian concludes the regular season with another weekend set against Samford and Chattanooga. The weekend includes a 7pm start on Saturday, November 10th and Sunday, November 11th at 2:30. Appalachian Football will host Furman on Saturday as part of Black Saturday.

In all, Appalachian will have three weekend home games with three on Saturday. The weekend of September 29th may interfere with football as the Coastal Carolina game could be the night game. The two other Saturday games will start right after the football games, which will most likely kickoff at 3:3opm.

The non-conference slate includes opponents from several BCS conferences. Seton Hall and Minnesota will participate in the James Madison Invitational. Houston and Missouri are included in the Lipscomb Invitational. The VCU Invitational includes Virginia and Georgetown. The Wake Forest Black & Gold Challenge includes the Demon Deacons, Toledo, and Campbell.

 Matt Ginipro also announced the addition of Dalton Tolliver, 6’1″ middle blocker from University of Maryland-Baltimore County. Tolliver was the America East Rookie of the Year and was a second team All-America East honoree. Tolliver will join liberos Kim Adkins and Meghan Mahoney, Outside Hitters Jessica Keller and Emily Corrigan, Setter Paige Brown, sister of current player Lauren Brown, and Middle Blocker Hailey Kerr.
