Appalachian will play its first game after a massive series win over #7 Louisiana State in Baton Rouge. Ryan Arrowood (1-0, 1.64) and Rob Marcello (2-0, 0.68) pitched masterful games and both picked up wins in only allowing one run combined in the final two games of the series.
North Carolina A&T played at Elon last Tuesday and lost 8-5. The Aggies picked up a win over Navy in their first series of the year and won two out of three from Temple this past weekend. This will be the Aggies second home game of the season. The Aggies have relied on a 3.34 staff ERA while only allowing opponents to hit .208 on the season.
Appalachian trailed most of the game but scored all of their runs in the sixth and ninth innings to win 5-3 over North Carolina A&T. True freshman Jeffrey Springs got his first collegiate start and allowed two runs in the first inning, but settled down to hold the Aggies to four total hits in four innings. Springs struggled a bit with his control, walking three batters and only throwing 37 of his 72 pitches for strikes.
Will Callaway(.333), Tyler Tewell(.333), and and Jeremy Dowdy(.318) led the Mountaineers bats with two hits apiece. Daniel Kassouf saw his average dip below .300 but did collect his team leading 7th RBI. David Port collected his first win of the season while Nathan Hyatt added his third save in as many appearances.
